Week 6 Friday

Staying On Path

Today’s scripture selection: Isaiah 29-33

Key verses: Isaiah 20:31

“Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, “This is the way; walk in it.”

One of the most common laments I hear people make is that they just can’t decide which way they should go in life.  We are confronted with so many choices every single day; sometimes what seems to be a myriad of them in just one hour.  And often, even when someone has tried to get organized and make some choices – I hear that person say that he or she just doesn’t know where to begin.

Have you ever had this experience?  With the best of intentions, you get out a few boxes and start to “de-clutter” you life.  At first, everything is going well.  After a while you even begin to see that a little progress is being made.  But then, suddenly it hits you.  You’ve stopped making progress and you are only shifting things from one box to another.  Or you find yourself just sitting on the floor staring at an item – totally clueless as to where to put it.  So, frustrated, you shove the boxes aside and determine to get “really organized” another day.

Well, maybe I am just confessing how “organizationally challenged” I am – but I don’t think I am totally alone.  It’s all too common that even when we want to set out in a clear direction – we quickly get stuck – wondering what the next step should be.

Good news – God offers a solution – one He has been offering His people for a very long time.  When you start feeling that un-easy confused feeling, stop and listen for His guidance.  It may be hard to hear at times.  It probably won’t come blaring into your mind like a fog horn.  But it’s there; what has long been known by sages and sinners alike as “the still small voice.”

It’s not the radio.  It’s not the nagging advice of a neighbor or boss.  It’s the voice of the One who lovingly created you and who has a wonderful plan for your life.

So listen up.  It will keep you on the right path, when you need direction the most.

Prayer: Father, when I am wandering off the road you have provided for me, help me to find my way back to you.  AMEN.
