Fringe
Today’s scripture selection: Job 25-26
Key verse: Job 26:14
You may have heard about a popular TV show named “Fringe”. It’s quite a roller coaster ride of show, deftly combining science fiction and fantasy, with a dash of theology thrown in too. Because of the special effects it’s not for the young or squeamish. But it’s interesting and fun, if you take it all with the good dose of salt.
Well Job knows about “fringe” science as well.
He talks about it, in reply to his so-called friend Bildad, who has been trying to talk with him about the nature of God. Having acknowledged some of more spectacular of the miracles God has performed he says,
“And these are but the outer fringe of his works; how faint the whisper of him! Who then can understand the thunder of his power?”
Who indeed.
In today’s pop culture we throw around words like “awesome” and “amazing” like they were nothing. We talk about “amazing” TV shows or “awesome” meals. We speak of “fantastic” days at work or “incredible” ball games.
But God – now He’s truly worthy of those accolades.
So the next time you hear someone describe the pizza they ate last night as “magnificent” pause to think about the One who truly is – and how He loves you more than you can imagine.
Prayer: Almighty, Awesome God – thank you for loving and watching over me and my world – with such wonderful care. AMEN.

He is a Certified Pastoral Counselor, an ACPE Practitioner, and a member of the American Association of Christian Counselors.
